Penguins And BEAKER (Melanie)

Okay..so at a house get together this past weekend we had our cousins drive in from DETROIT. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RED WINGS!
They did a road trip and brought me and my hubby and Red Wing hat and shirt. I will
never wear it. I'll have to clean with it. Ha!
My friends and family were good sports to them, but it sucked when the Pens lost 4-0.
The room kinda got quiet, but that only lasted about 15 minutes...because the drinks were still flowing and the food was still there!
Here are some pics of them with Buckhead and his beautiful fiance Ali.
Lisa and Troy were so much fun and they know the Red Wings will not be the Stanley Cup champs. They just can't admit it.

I guarantee Lisa will call in and harass The Buckhead and Bubba morning show Tuesday...UNLESS the Pens win tonight. Which they will. Revenge is sweet.

Here is me and Buckhead! Good pic huh?

Later in the night...one of our morning show interns showed up with his girl!
Poor Beaker got ABUSED by my girlfriends when he said something to the affect that ..."Women are just stupid and don't get it."
Here is a pic of the girls ganging up on him!

Can you see his face and how it was hung in shame as each of them where up in his face yelling at him?
Lisa, Elaine and Carla straightened him out!
I'm glad I didn't hear the conversation...I would have been one of the women setting him straight too! Poor Beak.

Name That Tune (Melanie)

Back at our desks TRYING to work, but have you ever played name that tune with co-workers?
It is kinda easier for us to do it in radio since we have access to music and can play songs online LOUD at our desks.
Buckhead and Bubba played a bunch of songs and some of the staff gathered around at our cubicles to listen and guess.
It lasted 15 minutes.
It was fun.
It was something that you wished could last all day at work, but you realistically know it can't.
When you work in radio you don't realize how many songs you know and remember from years ago.
Bubba and I were in a face off of old school rap and hip hop. Buck knew them too. But, Buck threw in some Simon and Garfunkel and threw Bubba off!
Isn't your day better for reading this blog on Buckhead and Bubba's blog?
Ha!
Tune in tomorrow morning here at B94!

E.T. For Real (Melanie)

Not sure if you can see this picture, but a friend of mine sent it (her name is Dee) and she said that a HUMAN E.T. has been spotted.
I just blogged about E.T. and how great of a movie it is and this man could seriously pass as the aliens double!

A Bunch Of Thoughts (Melanie)

I'm totally over this rain now. I'm ready for a nice week and nice Memorial Day weekend.

I shook hands today and met a great group of people at the 5th Annual Three Rivers Liver Foundation Walk. I was with KDKA's Jim Lokay and we did the event underneath the Birmingham Bridge. It was kinda weird knowing that the bridge was shut down for months because of structural issues. We just kept looking up a lot and talking about how it would be rather ironic if it would come crashing down on a traffic reporter and a former traffic reporter (me).
I met great people. A lot of B94 listeners.
A lot of Buckhead and Bubba fans.

E.T. is a GREAT movie. If you have never seen it you need to watch it.
E.T. was on ALL weekend long and I kept catching it in pieces. I realized it is so classic and so good. My 3 year old won't stop talking about it.
Movies re-surface for each generation to love.
Things come back around. I love espadrilles and Capri pants.
Old school sneakers.
Big huge permed hair..not so much.
E.T. made me think of all that is cyclical in life. One generation to the next. It keeps on giving.
B94 coming back.
How about The Stanley Cup back in Pittsburgh?

Rain Won't Matter (Melanie)

There are many great traits of a true Pittsburgher. One of them is braving this rainy May forecast.
The weather will never change our plans. We might complain and gripe and get irritated, but if we REALLY have to do something, we do it!
Examples..
.....sitting at PNC park in that annoying drizzle to see the Bucs win.

Walking from bar to bar in the Southside.

Sitting outside in lawn seats at the Post Gazette Pavilion for our favorite B94 concert.

Watching your kid play soccer or t-ball on a Saturday morning.

Walking a walk..running a race or supporting a cause in the 'Burgh.

We are there.

I'll be shaking more of our listeners hands this Sunday at the American Liver Foundation's Three Rivers Liver Walk at the Southside Heritage Trail.

Join B94 there and the many dedicated Pittsburghers for a great cause!

Happy Mother's Day (Melanie)

To every single Mom that might be reading this and listens to Buckhead and Bubba on
B94...Have a GREAT Mother's Day.

Sunday is YOUR day to hopefully relax, enjoy and take a step back and realize you have the hardest job you can ever imagine. Pat yourselves on the back.

I never realized that until I had my own child three years ago.

You don't understand something literally until you experience it first hand. I am a better person in this world because of my daughter Quinn.

The love and the joy is one that is unexplainable..so I won't even get lengthy here to try and do it or capture it in a blog.

Just a bit ago when I was playing the new version of Candy Land (not the old school board game one) I asked my daughter to help clean up her toys because it was nap time.

She was disgusted and kicked the plastic shapes and said she wanted to play more.

I looked at her and told her that it wasn't nice to do that and she needed to immediately help me clean up her mess before nap.

She then told me.."No, Momma..I don't wanna....you clean it up...or else you will go to jail."

Two hours later I'm still laughing inside from that one.

Where do kids come up with their thoughts that they say?

Her hug, her smile, her touch, her smell, her kisses and her laughter are my favorite gifts I've ever received in life. Nothing bought for me Sunday will matter other than those!

Anchovies (Melanie)

Test Dummy Tuesday today I had to eat anchovies.
GROSS. It was awful.
Bubba ate green peppers and Buckhead ate cottage cheese.
I feel I had the worst to eat. No...I know I did.
Off the air we discussed which foods we hated to eat and the guys miraculously decided it would be a good Test Dummy Tuesday.

I still have the taste in my mouth and I have allergies that are making me unable to breathe. So, you know how potent those little slimy fishies were.

OOOHHHH.
I'm grossing myself back out again.

Enjoy the weather today. Another good day!

Happy Cinco De Mayo (Melanie)

So, Mexico's official independence day holiday isn't really until September 16th. But, today May 5th (Cinco De Mayo) is a big holiday and still celebrated for most.
There are alot of parades and big flowery hats that are worn. Just to name a few.
People in the U.S. like to celebrate Cinco De Mayo and Los Angeles is the biggest. Los Angeles celebrates with over 600,000 people with music and food.
You could eat tacos, guacamole, enchiladas or burritos today to celebrate.
I don't think I have any of the above to make today for dinner.
You need to look at video at our website www.b94.com of the human pinatas today...."The Village Idiots." They went out and got whacked for cool B94 gear.
That is how we celebrated Cinco De Mayo here today!
You do it your way and LOVE it!

Pirates and Pens (Melanie)

Just got back to the house this evening after going to Fairfax Station, Virginia with the family for a family get together.
On Saturday the guys all went to the Washington Nationals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game at the new Nationals Park in Washington DC.
The stadium is not as nice as our PNC Park of course. Take a look!

That is what all the guys said. Us ladies stayed back at talked and ate and talked and ate and did our hair and napped and had some wine.

On the way home today...it was GREAT to be in the car and hear a Pens victory on the radio. It was just as we were about 45 minutes outside of Breezewood, Pa. that the Pens scored in overtime to win the series.

Philly vs. the Pens! Sounds good to me.

Over the weekend...all the cousins corrupted my daughter with her first taste of a "whoopie cushion." She loved it.
Where do I get one? I have to purchase one. I'm going to try to bring it in to the studio and get Buckhead and Bubba with it off air.
Although, working with Buckhead...he makes "sounds" that mimic what a whoopie cushion does...but he does it 100 times better.

Enjoy your week!

Pittsburgh's Hottest ( Melanie)

Are you a hot teacher reading this?
Come on....be honest. You can admit it. Maybe you are shy. That is fine. You can nominate someone you might know that is a hot teacher. Only specifications are that you are teaching now. No retirees. I know there are hot retirees though. My Mom being one!
Go Mel's Mom!
Just submit your nominations at the website here www.b94.com
Pittsburgh's hottest Penguin kicked things off the first week and Pittsburgh's hottest law enforcement was just this past week.
So, we move on to teachers now.
Have a great weekend everyone. Enjoy it. Rain or no rain.
GO PENS for Sunday!
